How come my hair extensions are discolored?

All of our hair extensions at Perfect Hair are made from 100% human remy hair in the highest quality. But the hairs that come into our factory are originally dark in color & thus have to go through a bleaching process before the actual color can be applied. So because our color formulas & color blends are so unique, all of our hair extension colors are produced in our factory using toners.

When you yourself place a toner on your client’s hair, you will also notice that it can disappear after a few washes. With some clients, this is already a little faster than others. This depends on :

• the client’s hair quality
• your customer’s aftercare
• What your client does with the hair during wear time (e.g., blow-drying, styling & curling, traveling, using hot water, etc.)

This discoloration process will also happen to your hair extensions & also depends on those same factors above. So it can certainly happen that there are clients who only need to touch up their hair extensions every 6 months, others every 2 months. In addition, some hair extension colors or roots wash off yellowish, others discolor rather warm, orange or maybe even green. It all depends on the undertone of the hair extension color itself.

So yes, just as a toner washes off on your own hair, so do our colors wash off on our hair extensions.

How to avoid & solve this ?

To avoid this as much as possible, we always advise to only use the products from the list of “How do I best care for my Perfect Hair” & inform your client that he or she should have a freshening toner placed every 2 months at your salon to keep the color intact. Of course there are clients & also certain hair extension colors that don’t need that every 2 months, but informing your client that it’s best to do so will keep the color refreshed & ensure you don’t receive those annoying photos of clients complaining because their hair extension color has become too warm or no longer matches. So better to prevent than to cure. Besides, if you use a refresher toner every 2 months, it’s easier to keep the color stable than if you suddenly have to completely correct hair extensions that have turned orange & on top of that, that toner of yours is also going to let orange through again faster than if you place a refresher toner every 2 months when the color is not yet orange.

Yes, it may very well not be necessary for every client but this way you are covered for when it is needed. With wefts & tapes this is more necessary than with keratin. More info we tell you in this video below.

Also, there are colors that may not suit you. If there is a color that you feel fades too quickly on your clients, avoid that color & choose 1 shade cooler.
