Bad news: yes, the color of hair extensions can fade faster & this can happen even after just 1 wash or style. This is because hair extensions are colored hair & just like a toner can fade on your own hair, different factors can affect the color.

The most common causes of color fading are:
– Washing with hard water
Hard water dries out the hair and leaves behind minerals that affect hair color.
– Showering too hot
Hot water causes a toner to fade faster and warm undertones to become visible more quickly.
– Sun, chlorine & seawater
Sunlight in particular can greatly affect color. That’s why you often see color changes in the summer or after a (sun) vacation, even in the winter months.
– Home products with acids (acids)
Common products with acids clean the hair thoroughly, but at the same time take away color pigment.
– Frequent washing
Toners (also on extensions) fade with every wash. The more often you wash, the faster the color fades.

Can the color fade even after just one time?
Yes, it can. For example, in the absence of sufficient heat protection or by using a non-creamy protection. Even a single styling session with too hot tongs can impact color.

Does this have anything to do with the quality of the extensions?
No, color decay says nothing about the quality of the extensions themselves. It has everything to do with how the client treats the hair.

If your client says she didn’t have this before with a different brand, there could be several explanations:
– The previous color had a different undertone that made less decay visible.
– She used to follow a different haircare ritual or has recently changed it.
– The previous brand used chemical textile dye, which lasts longer, but degrades hair quality.
At Perfect Hair, we consciously choose not to use this method to maintain hair integrity.

How do you solve this?
– Restore color: by adding a toner at the next move-up.
– Prevent fading: properly inform your clients in advance. Name the risks of color fading, give them clear guidelines (preferably in writing in your info bundle) & mention the price of any toner treatment.

That way, customers are better prepared, take more conscious responsibility and are less likely to blame you for color decay.

Extra tip: consider keratin extensions
With keratin hair extensions, you are less likely to notice color fading because you are replacing the hair more often & thus getting new hair regularly. Again, reuse can be done with a rebonding device, but keep in mind that a toner may still be needed with long-term use

Certain techniques have certain advantages. Therefore, we like to list them for you so it is easier to make a choice in which technique you prefer or suits you best.

Clip-ins advantages
Clip-ins are ideal if you like to work on your own hair. Since you don’t wear them every day, they often last for months & what’s more, you can remove or re-stick them as much as you like. It allows you to be creative with your own hair & any hairstyles you want to try out.

Clip-ins disadvantages
The disadvantage is that you have to insert your clip-ins yourself when you want to enjoy your perfect hair but it may not be every day. Because when you wear your clip-ins every day, it causes damage to your own hair. If you wear them sporadically, then this is the perfect technique for you.

Keratins benefits
Keratin hair extensions are very fine loose tufts of hair that provide 360-degree twisting comfort in your hair. If you often experiment with tails, braids or other fun hairstyles, keratins are often the most suitable. Even if you have very fine hair for which no other technique is suitable, keratins can often still be a solution. Moreover, they also stay in your hair for 3 to 4 months without having to be re-plastered. So ideal if you have little time to go to the hairdresser. Keratin hair extensions can often be placed in places that are difficult to reach with other techniques, such as at the very front of the hair contour. If your hair is fine or shorter there too, keratins can often solve this. Moreover, you have keratins removed every 3 to 4 months & place new ones. This gives you a new set of hairs every time, so you can enjoy the very best quality all year round.

Keratins disadvantages
Keratins can tangle so it’s very important to detangle them thoroughly several times every day. Keratins also tend to hang in tufts & are not reusable.

Tapes benefits
Tape extensions are often installed in minutes. If you want instant volume, to fill out your hair or perfect your colour, tapes are ideal. Tape extensions are also reusable & don’t fall into locks like keratin extensions sometimes do.

Tape disadvantages
Tapes need to be repositioned every 6 – 8 weeks. If you have little time to go to the hairdresser then this may not be ideal for you. Also, making high tails are more difficult without seeing the tape extensions.

Secret wefts benefits
Our Secret wefts consist of high density hair. Meaning that you have a high density of hair on a band of secret wefts. That way, you can aim for maximum results with a minimum of bands. Moreover, our Secret wefts have no beard hairs that can cause itching & are reusable. Secret wefts also don’t fall into locks like keratin extensions sometimes do.

Secret wefts disadvantages
Secret weft hair extensions need to be repositioned every 6 – 8 weeks. If you have little time to go to the hairdresser then this might not be ideal for you. Also, making high tails are more difficult without seeing the secret wefts if you have finer hair at the front & can cause damage if your hair is too fine or porous. Weft extensions are difficult to place very forward without them becoming visible. Therefore, it is not ideal if you want to thicken or lengthen your hair at the very front of the hair contour. If you have finer and/or broken-off hair at the front, you will find it difficult to get a transition with your Secret weft extensions.

Hand tied wefts advantages
Our hand tied wefts are very fine bands of hair that may still be suitable if your hair is too fine for our Secret wefts. Hand tied wefts are also reusable & do not fall into locks like keratin extensions sometimes do.

Hand tied wefts disadvantages
Hand tied wefts hair extensions need to be repositioned every 6 – 8 weeks. If you have little time to go to the hairdresser then this may not be ideal for you. Also, making high tails are more difficult without seeing the hand tied wefts if you have finer hair at the front & can cause damage if your hair is too fine or porous. Weft extensions are difficult to place very forward without them becoming visible. Therefore, it is not ideal if you want to thicken or lengthen your hair at the very front of the hair contour. If you have finer and/or broken hair at the front, you will have difficulty getting a transition with your hand tied weft extensions. And hand tied wefts have soft beard hairs that can cause itching in some individuals.

I-tip benefits
I-tip hair extensions are often installed in minutes. If you want an instant fun colour effect then that is ideal with i-tips. They are also reusable.

I-tip disadvantages
I-tip hair extensiosn fall into locks & need to be repositioned every 4 – 8 weeks. If you have little time to go to the hairdresser then this may not be ideal for you.

Everything starts with our selection process. Only the best hairs were selected to manufacture our hair extensions. We work with 100% human remy hair. For our Diamond Series we even use baby cuticle hair, hair sacrificed by ladies between 18 – 30 years young. These are the highest quality hairs available, in order to produce the very best hair extensions possible.

We also work differently in the processing process than the other brands you may already be used to. Where other hair extensions are protected by a silicone, -ion or oil protective layer, Perfect Hair exclusively uses a silk protective layer which gives these hair extensions an insanely soft texture.

Where the 96% of brands are private label brands, the entire production process of our Perfect Hair hair extensions is in-house in our own factory. Because of this, we control the quality of the hair extensions ourselves & can also develop everything custom made for you. New techniques, new lengths, or proprietary colors?
